A Buddhist scholar and writer, Ananda W. P. Guruge was a graduate of Dharmaraja College and an honors graduate in Sanskrit from the University of Ceylon before receiving his PhD from the University of London and entering diplomatic work.
From 1985 to 1994 he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to UNESCO, France, and the United States (with non-resident accreditation to Spain, Algeria and Mexico). He later taught Religious Studies at Cal State Fullerton and was the dean of academic affairs at University of the West.
Guruge authored 53 books in Sinhala and English, including three historical novels, Free At Last in Paradise (1998), The Serendipity of Andrew George (2003), and Peace At Last in Paradise (2011).
He lived at this address from 1992 to 1995 as Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States.
