Novelist, short story writer, journalist and translator, Clarice Lispector lived here with her husband, a Brazilian diplomat, from 1952 to 1959 and began her writing career while living in this house. She is best known for her mystic novel, The Passion According to G.H. (1964). She was born in Ukraine but spent most of her adult life in Brazil.
Lispector published nine novels, and nine collections of short fiction, as well as works for children and journalism. Her correspondence was published posthumously.
