Born Dorris Alexander Brown, this author is best known for his book Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (1970), about the displacement and slaughter of American Plains Indians by the U.S. government.
Dee Brown lived in DC between 1934 and 1948, studying at George Washington University and eventually working as a librarian for the Department of Agriculture and the Department of War.
Brown is the author of 17 nonfiction books, most about the American west, as well as a memoir, some children’s books, and ten novels.
