Eugene McCarthy

(March 29, 1916December 10, 2005)

Eugene McCarthy is the author of two books of poems, Cool Reflections (1997) and Selected Poems (1997), as well as over thirty books of political commentary and memoirs, and one children’s book.

McCarthy is best known for his service in the U.S. House of Representatives (D-MN) from 1949 to 1959, and the U.S. Senate from 1959 to 1971. He ran for President five times, first, and most famously, in 1968, when he ran against Lyndon B. Johnson on an anti-Vietnam War platform.
