Henri Bonnet

(May 26, 1888October 25, 1978)

Henri Bonnet was a French politician, diplomat, and French ambassador to the United States from 1944 to 1954.

His books include Le Monde, L’Amour, Et L’Amitie/The World, Love and Friendship(1946), Roman et poésie / A Novel and Poems (1951), and Hommage à George Sand/An Homage to George Sand (1969).

This mansion, originally built as a single-family home with 19 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, is a combination of Tudor Revival and Jacobean Revival styles. It was used as an ambassador’s residence and chancery beginning in 1936. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
