Jim Morrison, best known as lead singer of the rock band The Doors, self-published two books of poems in 1969, The Lords/Notes on Vision, and The New Creatures. Two posthumous books were also published: The Lost Writings of Jim Morrison, Volume 1: Wilderness (1988), and Volume II: The American Night (1990). Known for improvised spoken word between songs during his concerts, he also made studio recordings of his poems in 1969 and 1970.
Morrison lived at these two addresses in the 1950s, and graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria. The son of a U.S. Navy Admiral, he moved often in his youth. As an adult, he struggled with alcohol and drugs as his fame as a musician grew. He died of a heart attack at the age of 27.
