Liam Rector was born in DC. His three books of poems are The Sorrow of Architecture (1984), American Prodigal (1994), and The Executive Director of the Fallen World (2006). He also edited a study of the works of Donald Hall and co-edited, with Tree Swenson, a book on Frank Bidart. Rector’s essays and reviews appeared widely.
He taught at Columbia University, The New School, Emerson College, and George Mason University, and founded and directed the graduate Writing Seminars at Bennington College. He administered literary programs at the Association of Writing Programs (AWP), the National Endowment for the Arts, the Academy of American Poets, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.
Rector lived on Belmont Road from May 1976 to around August 1977, and on Harvard Street from about June 1978 to January 1980.
