Margaret Landon

(September 7, 1903December 4, 1993)

Margaret Landon is best remembered for her best-selling novel Anna and the King of Siam (1944), later made into two movies, a Broadway musical and film version Oscar & Hammerstein’s The King and I, and a television series. She also wrote a memoir, Never Dies the Dream (1949).

She and her husband were Presbyterian missionaries in Thailand from 1927 to 1937. She moved to DC in 1942, when her husband, Kenneth Landon was hired by the U.S. Department of State. Her husband also wrote three nonfiction books on southeast Asia.
