Maryhelen Snyder is the author of four books of poems: Never the Loss of Wings (2015), Sun in an Empty Room (2012), Because I Praise (1998), and Enough (1979). She also wrote a memoir, No Hole in the Flame (2008), and the nonfiction book Ethical Issues in Feminist Family Therapy (1995), and edited the nonfiction book The Young Child as Person: Nurturing the Development of Healthy Conscience (2014). Individual poems and essays of hers appeared in The Gettysburg Review, Sojourners, Rattle, Poet Lore, and Passager.
A psychologist and family therapist, Snyder earned a PhD from the Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara, California, and taught as adjunct clinical faculty in the Psychiatry Department at the University of New Mexico for nearly 40 years, until her retirement and move to the DC area. She was also a visual artist, painting in watercolor and acrylics, and a lifelong Quaker.
