Squirru founded the Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art in 1956, then came to DC in 1963 when he was appointed Cultural Director of the Organization of American States, serving through 1970. In addition to writing several books of art criticism and other nonfiction, Squirru published 13 books of poetry, a play, and translated three of Shakespeare‘s plays into Spanish. His poetry titles include: La noche iluminada (1957), 49 artistas de América: iterario poético (1984), and Chrysopeya del buen amor (1986). For several decades, he wrote articles on Argentine and Latin American culture for La Nación newspaper.
Although his house in the Observatory Circle neighborhood is still standing, it is not accessible to the public as it is now part of the military base.
