Mudd was a noted television journalist and author of the memoir The Place to Be (2008). He worked as anchor for the CBS Evening News, chief Washington correspondent for NBC, co-hosted Meet the Press, senior correspondent for the MacNeil/Leher NewsHour, and taught journalism at Princeton University. Among his honors, Mudd was a winner of the Joan Shorenstein Barone award for distinguished Washington reporting, a Peabody Award, and an honorary doctorate from Washington and Lee University.
